The BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship really is the affordable way to go motor racing and is the perfect starting point for those coming into the sport for the first time. There is a plentiful supply of Mk1s ready to race but even if you want to build your own car, donor cars are readily available and cheap to buy and convert. The 2016 season was another successful year with over 60 drivers registered for the Championship, with over 40 cars turning out for the season finale at Silverstone in October. For 2017, we are expecting further growth and a great calendar of eight meetings, featuring twenty four races is in place, meaning all meetings this season will be triple-headers (3 races per weekend). The season starts on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in April, whilst other popular circuits such as Silverstone, Cadwell Park & Oulton Park are also on the calendar before the season reaches a dramatic conclusion with the finale at the Donington Park National circuit in October.

All of the events will feature 20-minute qualifying sessions and three 20-minute races and will be broadcast on Motors TV throughout the season. The BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship will also feature a dedicated Race Centre at all championship rounds. This will be the focal point of the championship in the paddock and will enable all competitors and team owners a meeting point to socialise.

With tightly controlled regulations and few modifications allowed, the Mazda MX-5 Mk1 is a great entry route into club motorsport. The Mazda MX-5 has proved to be a very popular choice with competitors looking for affordable and competitive racing.
